MCC Huatian-Constructed No. 3 Blast Furnace at Changjiang Steel Recognized as "Dual Carbon Best Practice Energy Efficiency Benchmark"

Recently, the China Iron and Steel Industry Association announced that the No. 3 blast furnace at Baowu Ma Steel Anhui Changjiang Steel, constructed and maintained by MCC Huatian, has been awarded the title of "Dual Carbon Best Practice Energy Efficiency Benchmark Facility/Equipment." This recognition highlights MCC Huatian's comprehensive capabilities in full-process system integration for ironmaking and its commitment to energy efficiency excellence. It also provides a replicable and scalable model for the steel industry's "dual carbon" strategy and energy efficiency optimization.

The furnace began its first campaign in July 2013, built by MCC Huatian on an EPC basis. After nine years of safe operation, to meet stricter environmental standards, MCC Huatian undertook a medium-term maintenance in 2022. The renovation covered the furnace body, top, ironmaking area, slag treatment, ore bins, hot blast stoves, gas treatment, dust collection, water circulation, TRT, and electrical systems. Post-maintenance, the furnace incorporated advanced technologies such as low-consumption high-efficiency profiles, one-touch taphole opening, automatic mud feeding, automatic rod changing, robotic inspection, infrared thermal imaging of hot blast pipes, automatic slag grabbing, and an intelligent control system. These upgrades transformed it into a modern, low-consumption, green, high-efficiency, and intelligent facility. Operational results have been highly successful, with equipment reaching advanced levels among comparable domestic furnaces, earning top-tier performance rankings and the title of "Champion Furnace Below 2000m³" in Q1 2022.

To maximize energy savings, MCC Huatian adopted optimized site layout, integrated advanced intelligent and long-life technologies, and installed comprehensive gas cleaning and top pressure recovery systems. These measures enable efficient recovery of furnace top gas pressure energy and significant energy reduction. Additional gas recovery facilities minimize emissions, while variable-frequency drives on dust collectors reduce power consumption. Processed gas not used internally is sent to the plant's power generation unit. All emissions, wastewater, and noise are treated to national standards, and solid waste is fully recycled, generating additional revenue.

Going forward, MCC Huatian will continue advancing key energy-saving and carbon-reduction technologies, strengthening independent innovation, and delivering more benchmark projects. The company aims to provide systematic solutions that combine economic and environmental benefits, responding to national energy goals and driving progress toward the "dual carbon" targets through concrete actions.
